I hope your April is off to a great start. I love starting a new month. It's like starting with a clean slate. In honor of my new book, Let Love Spring, coming out today, I'll be giving away one of my books to two lucky commenters. You have to comment for your chance to win. Giveaway is for US residents only though. :)
With the start of a new month, I wanted you to meet a fellow author with my publishing house where I have two contracts. Please welcome, Toni Shiloh.
Hi Toni. How did you develop a 'love of story'?
My first clear memory of being sucked into the book world is while reading Nancy Drew. I had to know what would happen and who dunnit. ;) Ever since then, I’ve been devouring books left and right to escape to another world.
i can relate. I read many Nancy Drew mysteries as a kid. Tell your readers about a typical day in your life.
I’m a mom so my day is very much riddled with routine. Wake up and read my Bible. Wake my kids, feed them breakfast, hustle them out to the bus stop, and then come home and eat breakfast. I then take some time to work on my blog, social media posts, and any marketing that needs to be done. After I’m done with all of it (takes a few hours since I’m on multiple group blogs and the ACFW Virginia local chapter president), I sit down and write. I either work on my current wip or edit, whichever is more important. Then my kiddos come home. I make sure they do homework. Finish any pressing work. Cook dinner and then read a book while the TV watches me.
:) I like that last line. Apart from writing, what is your favorite creative outlet?
Reading! There are so many good authors and so many good books. I fear I have more books then I’ll ever read, but that doesn’t keep me from trying. I also like to play video games with my husband and kids.
Chuckle. I'm noticing a pattern. Where did you get the inspiration for your latest book?
My publisher asked me if I would write a story situated in spring and about weddings. The idea was so wide so I prayed and thought. I thought about crazy wedding stories. I knew I wanted to people who were friends of friends to fall in love. But how? Falling in love at a wedding seemed a little cliché. So, I made it a proxy wedding. After doing some research, I found the perfect spot and the rest grew from there.
Sounds like a fun read. What do you plan to work on next?
I’m doing edits for Finding Love, book 2 in my Maple Run Series. It releases in June so I’m very excited about it. When I don’t have edits to do, I’m working on a rom com. It’s different then anything I’ve written so far and I’m just enjoying the process.
It looks like writing keeps you busy. Is there something about you most people wouldn’t know?
When I first joined the Air Force, I was supposed to be a Korean linguist. After thirteen months of attempting to learn the language and being tested in reading, writing, and talking, I ended up failing and having to be retrained into another job. It was disheartening to fail at something, but my new job ended up leading me to my husband.
Something wonderful came out of your failure. :) What advice would you give to new authors?
Read! You don’t realize how much you learn from reading other authors until you sit down and write. Your brain has been cataloging all the information, what you like, don’t like, big words, etc. When you sit down, you have a leg up versus a person who never reads in that genre.
Thank you so much for being here today, Toni. Be sure to keep watching for Toni's new book which releases later this month. Praying the Lord blesses your writing, Toni.
Also a reminder to leave a comment for your chance to win a book this week. :)
