Four days until Christmas. Lena Nelson Dooley's new book would make a good gift. :) Let's learn a little more about Lena.
Welcome Lena. How did you develop a love of story?
We were poor when I was very young, and one of our major forms of entertainment was going to the public library every Saturday and checking out enough books for a week. I read so much that often my mother would say, “Lena Rose, get your nose out of that book and go outside and play a while.”
Chuckle. :) How does faith play a part in your writing?
Since Jesus is such an important part of my life and my marriage, I could never write a book without having at least some characters who also walk with the Lord. I have almost completely stopped from reading books that aren’t Christian novels. I miss that spiritual thread that helps me grow. I don’t want my readers to feel let down when they finish reading one of my books.
I know what you mean about desiring to see spiritual threads in a story. What do you want readers to come away with after reading your books?
I want to entertain them with an interesting story with characters who will stay in their minds a long time.
I think that's a goal of most authors. :) What is your passion as a writer?
Because God placed people at different junctures of my writing life, just where I needed them, I want to be that person for another Christian writer. So I mentor as many writers as I have time to … for His glory.
That's really sweet of you, Lena. Tell us about your new book.
I’m really excited about the book that just released, A Heart’s Gift. This story spent several years in my heart and in my head. During that time, God revealed several things to me that made the story better and better. Here is the back cover copy:
Because of an earlier betrayal, Franklin vows never to open his heart to another woman. But he desires an heir. When Lorinda is finally out from under the control of men who made all the decisions in her life, she promises herself she will never allow a man to control her again. But how can she provide for her infant son? Marriage seems like the perfect arrangement until two people from Franklin's past endanger Lorinda. How can he save her? And how will this affect the way they feel about each other?
My fans have been eagerly awaiting this full-length novel from me. It’s available on Amazon in print and Kindle as an ebook. Soon it will be available from Ingrams, and bookstores can stock it.
Congratulations on your new book, Lena. What are you working on now?
After having 7 books release this year, I’m taking time off through the holidays. However, there are at least two books on the near horizon.
Wow! That's a lot of books. I think you've earned some time off. :) One final question. Is there a book you read that you had wished you'd written?
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It’s the first book I ever sobbed while I was reading it. The depth. The eternal love. I recommend that book to men and women alike, so they can understand the depth of God’s love for them.
Ah, Francine created a unique story when she wrote that book. I remember being touched by it as well. Thanks for taking time to stop by today. Praying you and your family have a blessed Christmas.
