Violet Hawthorne is on her own since her brother has turned her family home into a house of ill repute. But she never counted on him auctioning her off in a poker game to a dangerous and unsavory man. In order to stay out of the evil man's clutches, she is forced to accept the hand of an acquaintance.
Vance Everstone is a man with a reputation. He's trying to settle down and do the right thing. With that in mind, he agrees to marry Violet, thinking he'll be able to keep her safe.
Will Vance ever see her as a woman to love or merely as a woman to protect?
This was my first experience reading one of Dawn Crandall's novels. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of unconditional love and forgiveness. I look forward to reading the first three books and getting caught up in the Everstone Chronicles. I give The Cautious Maiden a 4 out of 5 for happily-ever-afters.
