Lydia King is in financial need. She's been tasked by the Teaville Moral Society to seek out a donation from the wealthiest man in town, not for her, but for others in her community who require assistance.
Nicholas Lowe refuses to give a donation to her cause, he instead leads her on a path that makes Lydia see the absolute destitution of those in her town. Those that are often overlooked or disdained. It reminds me of this verse from Matthew 25:40 (NIV):
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
I found A Heart Most Certain to be one of my favorite books by Melissa Jagears. She developed in-depth characters who pull the reader into their fiction world. This novel was a gripping tale that makes you think about those around us who are hurting and in need of assistance. I give it a 4.5 out of 5 for happily-ever-afters.
