Welcome Elaine Faber

It's a new month. Be sure to check out what this month's giveaway will be. :)

Welcome Elaine Faber! How did you develop a 'love of story'?

The ‘love of story’ was born in me. I taught myself to read before I started first grade. By second grade, I was bored to death at the slow progress of my classmates and the reading material offered. “See Dick run. See Jane run. Look, Spot, look.” At age 7, I was writing poems for my mother. By high school, I wrote short stories and still have some of them in a brown, faded folder. Looking at them now, I see that the writing was terrible, but the plots? Not so bad. One day, I may dig one out and actually rewrite it. Probably the next great American novel...

:) You never know, right? What is your most difficult writing challenge?

My biggest challenge is how to get the great big world, with millions of novels to choose from, to find and read mine. Once someone has read one of my books, usually they love it and ask for more. As long as they keep asking, I’ll keep writing and maybe someday, a hundred years from now, my name will become a household word.

Getting known in a noisy world is a challenge I face as well as a writer. How does faith play a part in your writing?

Once, an inspirational speaker said, “Tell your ‘truth’ a different way.” In Black Cat and the Accidental Angel, faith and prayer are instrumental in solving the family’s problems. To ‘tell my truth a different way,’ I wrote much of the story through the cat’s point of view. These cats learn life’s lessons, much as we all face. My hope is that the reader will ‘identify’ with Thumper as he experiences love, loss, despair, conceit and shame. For instance, when Thumper’s kitten is old enough to leave home, his mate, Angel, says, “The hardest thing for a mother to do is to tell her son to man-up, that she won’t be there any longer. He’s on his own. Do you have any idea how much that hurts a mother? How it breaks my heart to pretend I don’t care, so my son has the courage to turn away, often in anger, and stand on his own four feet?”

Sounds interesting. :) Tell us about your new book.

Mrs. Odboddy–Hometown Patriot is a humorous mystery adventure set in a small town during WWII. While enduring the hardships of war and rationing, volunteering and learning to make do, or do without, eccentric, elderly Mrs. Odboddy believes that black market conspiracies abound and Nazi spies are running amuck. Certain that there is a ration book black market scheme, she attempts to expose it. Likewise, she is convinced that one of the ladies in her knitting circle is a Nazi spy. When Mrs. Roosevelt comes to town to attend a funeral, Mrs. Odboddy’s obsessions become all too real and she must prove she is, indeed, a hometown warrior, even at risk to her own life. Available at Amazon for $3.99

Sounds like intrigue and mayhem. :) What do you want readers to come away with after reading your books?

I’d like to think she will close my book and wish there was another 100 pages. She will wish she could pick up the phone and invite her favorite character for coffee! After posting a great Amazon review, she will order another of my books, because for a little while, she had a few laughs, has traveled with me to a place where the bad guys lose and the good guys win and maybe learned something along the way. Then she will tell her friends how much she enjoyed my book. That’s not too much to hope for, is it?

I think you mentioned every writer's dream. :) What are you working on now?

The sequel, Mrs. Odboddy–Cross Country Courier, will be published later this fall. I’m currently working on the third Mrs. Odboddy novel. In this story, things finally appear to be going along fine in Mrs. Odboddy’s life... “and then there is a tiger;” not only the complications that occur from the ‘clichéd tiger,’ but also a living, breathing tiger…oh my!

Oh my. I'm sure your readers are excited to read that one. :) One final question - where can readers find you and your books?
